It's September and cold and flu season are right around the corner.  If you are like most parents, you are probably bracing for impact each day as your kids come home from school. Wondering which of your kids contracted what type of cold.  As daily reports come streaming in like "Johnny was throwing up in my class today.."  or "Suzy sneezed all over my lunch in the lunchroom..", you realize that sickness, loss of sleep and the constant worry about trying to help your kids make up their school work are yet again going to be a big part of your life this school year.  Sometimes I even wonder (for just a second or two) if the home schooling option is a good way to go.  By the time October hits,  the madness is in full swing and the thought of having the kids at home, bored and wondering what to do seems like a fond but distant memory. The worry of getting sick and missing work, activities or other required engagements is a constant concern and for many an unfortunate reality.

In all of this madness, you begin asking yourself if there is anything that can help to get through the school year and help your family to dodge the proverbial cold and flu bullet.  Lucky for us, there are things that you can do to help safeguard your family during the C&F season.  We all know about the washing your hands, making sure that you get enough sleep,eating right, etc... but did you know that cocoa could just be the thing that you are missing?  That's right.  There are a number of studies that don't merely suggest that the consumption of cocoa increases your ability to fight off flu and colds.  The results of these studies prove it!!  A study that was published in the NCBI (US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health) called "Anti-influenza virus effects of cocoa"* showed that in a 3 week study, the people who had been "drinking cocoa" had higher levels of "killer cell activity." Killer cell activity is our body's action when invaded by a virus or bacteria.  By having a higher level of killer cell activity our bodies are able to fight off those pesky little monsters that wreak havoc on our bodies.
