Choffy and Teeccino: cacao bean or herbal blend
Both brew in a coffee maker or French press and neither contains coffee. The difference is what goes in the basket: Teeccino French Roast is a blend of roasted carob, barley, chicory and ramón seeds with natural coffee flavor, and Choffy is one thing — roasted cacao, ground, brewed and strained.
Teeccino is a roasted herbal blend. Choffy is one thing — roasted cacao, ground, brewed and strained.
Same press, same filter, same morning routine.

Which one tastes more like coffee?
Choffy, if what you miss is the bitterness of black coffee. Roasted cacao is naturally bitter, dark and smoky, and our French roasts are the closest to black coffee we make. Teeccino gets its coffee taste partly from added natural coffee flavor on a roasted carob, barley and chicory base, which reads toastier and slightly sweet.
Which has less caffeine?
Teeccino. It is caffeine free. An 8 oz cup of Choffy is about 20 mg of caffeine by our own measurement, against about 96 mg in the same size cup of coffee on USDA figures.
Do they brew the same way?
No. Both brew ground in a French press, drip machine or pour-over, but Choffy also comes in single-serve cups compatible with Keurig® brewers. Teeccino's own site lists ground, tee bags and instant, and no pods.
What is in the cup besides caffeine?
Theobromine, which occurs naturally in cacao and carries into the brew. Nothing is added: no sugar, no flavoring, no fillers.
The three differences that actually matter
A blend against a single bean
Teeccino builds a coffee-like cup from several roasted plants plus natural coffee flavor. That is a legitimate way to make a coffee alternative. Ours is one ingredient with nothing added, so there is nothing on the label to look up and no flavoring doing the work.
Roasted grain against roasted cacao
Carob, barley and chicory give a toasty, slightly sweet, cereal-like cup. Roasted cacao is bitter, dark and smoky — the French roasts land closest to strong black coffee. If what you miss about coffee is the bitterness, that points toward the bean.
Zero caffeine against a little
This is the real fork. Teeccino has none. Choffy has about 20 mg in an 8 oz cup by our own measurement, plus theobromine, cacao's own gentle stimulant. If you are cutting caffeine to zero for a medical reason, choose the zero. If you want a cup that still feels like a morning cup, try the bean.
