If you are like me and recently discovered Choffy and want to literally try ALL the flavors this is a fantastic way to do that. I LOVE that Choffy has this option.
Please understand that I have never liked coffee or coffee like flavors. Everyone's tastes vary and I think you should try them all for yourself by buying this sampler set but If you can only buy one bag and are a chocolate lover coffee hater like me hopefully my thoughts below on the flavor of each kind will be helpful
1. Nigerian French Roast - Initially smells like coffee when opening the bag. Tases a lot better than it smells. It does have a campfire charcoal flavor like if you just ate the black burnt part off of a toasted marshmallow but with dark chocolate. Not bitter or acidic or watery at all and only a little smoky. The underlying dark chocolate flavor is very nice and by the time you get to the bottom of the cup you don’t notice the charcoal flavor any more. It is better than I am making it sound.
2. Nigerian Dark Roast - Initial smell is a little hint of coffee and smoky smell but you can mostly smell the chocolate. Dark chocolate with a medium amount of smokiness that you stop noticing after the first few sips. No acidity, charcoal or bitterness. There is a bit of a smoky after taste in your mouth.
3. Nigerian Medium Roast – initial smell is of chocolate. mild thin dark chocolate flavor with some smokiness. (I didn’t taste smokiness when I bought and brewed the singles but got this time in the French press.)
4. Volta Dark Roast – Initial smell dark chocolaty. Smells good. Rich complex dark chocolate. Only a very tiny bit of smoky after taste.
5. Volta Medium Roast – Initial smell of chocolate- just heavenly dark chocolate flavor. I really like this one.
6. Ecuador French Roast - Initial smell like coffee but not as strong as Nigerian French roast. Tastes like a nice warm rich deep dark chocolate made over a campfire with a few campfire ashes making their way into the cup. It is really more ashy not smoky. Not acidic. I actually do like it but I like others better.
7. Ecuador Dark Roast – Initial smell a bit smoky. Smoky smell when brewed. Not watery but a Light dark chocolate flavor mostly tastes smoky.
8. Ecuador Medium Roast – Initial smell chocolaty and a hint fruity but I can’t tell what fruit. Taste deep chocolate but a nice brightness to it. No smoke not acidic.
9. Ivory Coast French Roast - Nice deep chocolate flavor that was nutty and complex.
10.Ivory Coast Dark Roast – Initial smell pure heavenly dark chocolate smell. No smoke no acid. Deep dark chocolate
11. Ivory Coast Medium Roast – Initial smell dark chocolate but not as intense as the Dark roast. No smoke no acid just a nice dark chocolate flavor.
Overall the Ivory Coast and Volta are my favorites because I don't like smoky flavors as much but I am not a chef/foodie/gourmet. I still think everyone should buy the ultimate sampler pack and discover all the flavors for yourself.
